Siargao Island, a small island about 800 km southeast of Manila, is another regular destination surfers. Waves in Cloud 9, a point which offers a ferocious waves offshore, is the best in the Philippines, and the fine white sand is like powder.
The Kalinaw Resort is the only luxury accommodation on the island. Kalinaw (which means 'Peace' in the Visayan dialect) displays a series of huts that are designed with wooden floors, complete with free wi-fi access and views of the beach.
If you're not busy playing with the waves of Cloud 9, go to Sohoton Cave, on the beach adjacent to the wild forests and caves which are half submerged in water. In addition, ask at the resort for food packing a picnic and spend the day paddling in the shallow reefs.
The best waves are between July and November, although in the months to coincide with the monsoon season. To avoid the rain, came between November to May.
