Norfolk Island


Norfolk Island is a small island located in the Pacific Ocean, between Australia, New Zealand and New Caledonia. He is an external territory of Australia. Araucaria heterophylla, a species typical of Norfolk Island pine tree, a symbol on the flag of the region.

The island was named by Captain James Cook who was taken from his wife of the Duke of Norfolk, wife of Edward Howard, Duke of Norfolk to-9 (1685-1777). The Duke's wife had died (in May 1773 before) at the time of Captain Cook gave the name of the island, but in 1772 when he left the Duke's wife was still alive.
